The Home of Bobo

Transparently Bright and Playfully Variable Residential Design

Nowadays, the young generations work in fast-paced cities, rushing from one place to the other without enthusiasm for life. To make things worse, the homogenization of commercial real estate forces them to live in the same type of apartments. Faced with this phenomenon, designer Deng Zhichao wanted to create a space suited to their unique lifestyles and awaken the love of young people for their own homes. Transparency and change became the keywords of the design.

The Home of Bobo is a residential design that breaks away from the conventional norms of apartment living. The original structure consisted of two lofts, but Deng Zhichao removed most of the walls, creating a transparently bright space with a wide view. The first floor seamlessly connects the living room, dining room, and kitchen through an open design, reflecting the hospitable character of the owner. On the second floor, the private space of the owner, glass is intelligently used to create a sense of transparency throughout the space.

What sets The Home of Bobo apart is its unique properties. The removal of walls and the use of glass make the space feel open and airy, allowing natural light to flood in. The intelligent use of colors and materials adds to the design's appeal. The furniture is attractive and unique, with colors carefully matched to the background tones, creating an artistic atmosphere. Twill laminate flooring contrasts with varnished boards, while marble neutralizes carpet patterns. The use of green plants by the window brings a touch of nature into the space.

Within the limited space, Deng Zhichao faced the challenge of creating a playful and variable space that could also accommodate the owner's collections. The result is a design that balances functionality and aesthetics. The walls were designed following block patterns, and surfaces with an array of low saturation colors evoke a spiritual feeling, portraying spatial creativity and a compelling imagination. The space finds balance through the use of ethereal dark green tones complemented by restrained white tones, creating different layers of expression and blank spaces where "less is more".

The Home of Bobo was realized using a combination of creativity and technical expertise. The design project took place from August 2018 to May 2019 in Chongqing, China. The attention to detail and the thoughtful consideration of the owner's unique lifestyle make this design a standout in the residential space.

This exceptional design, created by Deng Zhichao, was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This recognition is a testament to the outstanding and creatively ingenious nature of The Home of Bobo, which authentically combines experience, resourcefulness, and best practices in art, science, design, and technology. It contributes to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
